According to a “Cakes For Occasions” article on NCEN there are several very prominent trends that are going to appear this summer.
Wedding cakes spiked with flowers. The cake is the base for gerbera daisies, orchids, roses and hydrangeas.
Brightly colored cakes such as acid green, hot pink and tangerine.
Nautically inspired cakes with navy and white details adorned with sailor’s knots, lighthouses and anchors.
Brown cakes with flavors like mocha, coffee and chocolate with vivid yellow green or orange trim.
Serving a cake made with tiers of several different flavors.
Unusual flavor combinations. More and more we are seeing flavors like chocolate and key lime or strawberry and grand marnier together.
Red Velvet cake with cream cheese frosting is still one of the hottest and kitchiest of wedding cakes.
All in all there is a real trend towards sixties and seventies designs as well. A lot of these colors and flavors have not been really that much in vogue since then and now they are back with a vengeance!
