square wedding cakeWhile wedding cakes are traditionally round, this isn’t the only cake shape you should consider. Here are the options most commonly offered:

  • Square: Square cakes look formal, but edgy. This modern look is great for brides who want a fondant cake with sharp, bold lines.
  • Scallop: The scallop edge on a cake looks less formal. If casual is your style, this might be the shape for you.
  • Hexagon or Octagon: Geometrical cakes look regal, but can be pricey. Not every bakery offers these shapes, which are typically best for larger cakes.
  • Round: Of course, a traditional round cake can be beautiful for your wedding. This is one of the best cakes for tiers or if you want an interesting cake stand, since most cake stands are round. You’ll have more options.
  • Molded or Other shapes: What something very nontraditional? Try a cake that molded into a 3-d shape or a cake that has odd-shaped and off-kilter layers. This kind of modern look isn’t for everyone, but it might be perfect for your wedding.

Remember, no one says that you have to have just one cake. In fact, the combination of a traditional white cake and a slightly more playful or modern groom’s cake is becoming more and more popular all over the country. You can have multiple wedding cakes to show off all of your personality traits!
