Lavender BouquetLavender is a sweet smelling flower, and is also quite beautiful. It looks lovely with the white of a wedding gown, and because of the straight stems of blossoms can add a bit of texture to the look of your bouquet as the spikes jump outward slightly.

The bouquet shown here is from Labyrinth Hill, but lavender is a relatively common flower, and can be easily incorporated by your florist.

Hydrangea BouquetHydrangea blossoms come in huge bunches that provide almost a natural bouquet. A group of hydrangea blossoms can be held together to create a hydrangea bouquet without even adding in any other flowers. This creates a relatively inexpensive bouquet in a handful of colors from blue to white to pink and one that is still quite lovely.

For brides on a budget, hydrangea is a fantastic option.

Shell BouquetWe see lots of fantastic and beautiful things on Etsy, and this lovely bouquet is no different. For the beach bound bride, this bouquet could not be more perfect. The lovely cream color of the shells will accent the white of your dress, and the pearls add a sweet, feminine touch. This is, however, not the kind of bouquet you will want to throw!

GingerThis bouquet is composed of plumeria flowers, bird of paradise flowers, and the bright red ginger flower. Ginger is a lovely flower, and adds a lovely accent to a bouquet as well as working nicely on its own, perhaps as a bridesmaid bouquet or a tossing bouquet.

Lavender and WheatWheat is a symbol of fertility, as are most grains, and the look of wheat is elegant, like a flaming stalk, a feather, or a brush. Wheat makes a lovely bouquet accent and a wonderful statement.

The bouquet shown here is a combination of wheat and lavender, giving you the beautiful wheat and the symbolism alongside lovely and fragrant lavender blossoms. While it may seem too informal for an indoor wedding, an outdoor wedding would fit perfectly with a bouquet like this.

PomanderIf you need your hands free, or just want a change from the normal bouquet, a pomander may be the way to go. This Sweetheart Pomander was made by Pemberton’s Flowers, but a skilled florist should be able to make you something similar.

A pomander flower ball hangs from a ribbon, and can be convenient, fun, lovely, and daringly different for you and your maids.

Hawaiian BouquetHow do you keep your wedding bouquet beautiful for years to come? While no method of preservation is perfect, vacuum freeze drying is the best method for preserving the original look of the flowers. Heller and Reid offers this service for brides all over the US.

Another method for preservation is hanging the bouquet upside down until the flowers are dried, which gives them a classic dried-flower look.

If you don’t need your complete bouquet, a few flowers from your bouquet can be pressed between glass to create anything from a window display to a photo frame.

Lilly arrangementIf you’re an environmentally concerned bride, consider going a bit greener on your wedding flowers. Flowers can have a large carbon footprint. They have short lives, so they must be flown or trucked in refrigerated units, stored cool, and replaced often, even if they are not sold. Many are also grown with pesticides, herbicides, and other chemicals.

To “green” your wedding flowers up and minimize your footprint, buy flowers from local sources or that you know are grown locally. Choose organic flowers if possible, and have  them picked as close to your wedding as possible so that you can avoid refrigeration needs. To minimize the number of flowers you will need, consider an outdoor garden wedding and centerpieces that do not include flowers. You can also reuse the flowers by donating them to a funeral home when you are through with them.

TuberoseThe tuberose flower, which is shown here as a gumpaste model by Golden Crown Petals, can be used as an accent flower in a bridal bouquet, and has a lovely scent as well as attractive flowers. It is a tropical flower, so you should check with your florist to see if it is available in your area or if they can be imported.
