wedding flowers kiss bouquetFlowers are flowers are flowers, right? Well, not exactly. When planning the flowers for your wedding, avoid these four types that could cause problems for you or your guests:

  • Fragrant Flowers: You may love the smell gardenias, but your guest may not. Fragrent flowers can affect people’s allergies and actually can change the taste of your meal and cake. Stick to flowers that have less of an odor.
  • Flowers that Die Quickly: After your flowers are cut, they start dying almost right away. Some will last for days, but others, like jasmine, will probably only last a few hours. Tropical flowers may wilt even faster. Use flowers that are made to last.
  • Anything that will Stain:Yes, some flowers so stain. Pollen is especially a culprit, and a pollen stain is very difficult to remove from a white wedding dress. In addition, flowers that are artificially colored may have dye that rubs off on your dress.

Flowers should add to your wedding, not detract from it. If your flowers stink, die, or stain, you won’t remember them fondly on your big day.

  2. I will add more detail to this list…Fragrant overwhelming scents, mostly star gazer and other varieties of lily family. Asiatic lilies have no fragrance. Not quite as spectacular. Make sure all pollen is removed from stamens, buds, if they open will display pollen. carefully get a kleenex and strip off the pollen in its “tight” state. After awhile they burst into pollen. Get them right away no yellow poo stains.

Hydrengeas are the scariest. They must be kept COOL and HYDRATED or you will have a catasrophe on your hands.
