When picking out your “something blue” item, shoes are a great option. Blue shoes add a little fun to otherwise traditional weddings, but are still very classy. The only problem? It can be harder than you think to actually find formal blue shoes!

Nina makes this pair, called Gaticus Ss, and they’re available from a number of shoes, including Sole Struck. You won’t just walk down the aisle in these shoes – you’ll sparkle down the aisle.

Blue shoes might seem like a bold choice, but since most wedding dresses are long, they’re not likely to take away from the overall beauty of your dress. You don’t want your shoes to steal the show. Sole Struck has these Gaticus Ss shoes available for less than $90, so they can be a conversation piece at the wedding without breaking the bank.

old shoesWhen you come out of the chapel or reception hall, don’t be surprised if your “getaway” car has been covered with signs saying “just married” and has tin cans and old shoes tied to the back. Most people just assume that this is to be funny, but there is actually a reason you could be dragging smelly sneaks through town as you drive to your hotel for the night!

There are two theories. First, people thought that demons didn’t like the smell of humans, and one of the best sources of body order is old shoes! The other theory is that evil spirits doesn’t like loud noises, so the shoes (along with tin cans and other items that make clanging noises) scare away demons.

In either case, the old shoes tied to your car represent your entrance in a happy and healthy marriage together. They might stink, but your friends mean well – and in any case, it is a great way to make a grand departure from your ceremony or reception site!

Few men actually like to wear dress shoes, and even if he owns his own pair, your groom’s dress shoes are likely extremely uncomfortable. This is one area, however, where being a little casual can be playful and interesting, even if your wedding is extremely formal. Here are some of the unique shoe options your groom could consider rather than traditional shoes:cowboy boots

~ Cowboy Boots: If your groom has a country side to him, a pair of dressy cowboy boots might work well for your wedding.

~ Converse Sneakers: Grooms who have a punk/pop side look great wearing casual Converse sneakers with very formal outfits.

~ Flip Flops: If you’re having a beach wedding, why not allow your groom to wear flip flops? It’s perfect for a casual wedding in the sand.

~ Cleats: If your groom is a major sports fan and spends a lot of time on the field, it might look great for him to wear his cleats on your wedding day. If they’re a little dirty and worn, that’s part of their charm.

shoesUnfortunately, not every bride gets married on a sunny, beautiful day. Some brides have to deal with rain and snow, and when this happens, your shoes are your best friends. If you’re worried that your wedding day might not be perfect in terms of weather, here are some of the ways you can ensure that your shoes get you through the day:

~ Choose wedges or flats instead of stilettos. You don’t want your heels to sink in the mud as you walk, coating them in a lovely shade of brown. With more surface area, you’ll sink in the ground less, so wedges and flats are good choices.

~ Buy two pairs of shoes. If it’s wet outside, buy a more casual, weather-proof pair of shoes for walking to and from the car, and switch shoes once you get inside.

~ Stay away from leather. Leather is easily damaged in puddles and rain. Choose shoes that will be less affected by the wet weather.

~ Choose materials that can be easily wiped. A lot of jewels and certain fabrics mean that your chose can’t just be wiped free of mud. Choose shoes that you can quickly clean if the weather is bad so that you’re not splattered with mud for your pictures.

airportIn the weeks leading up to your wedding, you’re probably focused on the ceremony and reception – but don’t forget to plan for the honeymoon as well, including what shoes you’re going to wear. The shoes you’ll take with you depend in you location and your plans for activities, but there are some commonalities for the shoes you actually wear when you head to the airport, no matter where your flight is taking you and your new husband. Here footwear tips to consider when traveling:

~ Wear shoes that slip on and off easily. When you go through airport security, you will be required to remove your shoes, even if you’re wearing flip flops or sandals.

~ Take extra socks. Since you’ll be required to take off your shoes, you’ll likely want to wear socks so your bare feet aren’t on the airport floor. Thousands of people go through that area, and your socks can pick up bacteria,  fungi, and more. Keep an extra pair of socks in your purse and as soon as you’re allowed to put on your shoes again, switch socks and throw the dirty pair away.

~ Be prepared to run. Unless you’re comfortable running in heels, flats are probably your best bet for the airport. You might get stuck in security or have to run between gates, and if that’s the case, you don’t want to be wobbling around in heels.

~ Take light shoes on vacation. You may not wear the same shoes on your way home, which means that they could be in your luggage, and if your suitcase is too heavy, you’ll have to pay extra for it. Leave the knee-high boots at home and travel instead with tennis shoes or simple slingbacks.

 bare toes

This entire site is dedicated to helping brides find the perfect pair of wedding shoes. However, sometimes the perfect pair of wedding shoes is no shoes at all. Everyone can picture a bride and groom barefoot on the beach during a tropical destination wedding, but you don’t have to travel to a tropical island to go barefoot on your wedding day.

I remember one wedding I attended where I found this amazing shoe I was so excited to wear. It ended up hurting me so badly that I was barefoot at the reception after about 10 minutes. So, for you, why not just save yourself the money and plan to go barefoot from the beginning.

If you do, however, here are a few tips:

1. Make sure you get a pedicure. Whether you do it yourself or at the spa, you will want your toes looking their best.

2. Have fun with your polish. Since your toes are center stage be creative.

3. Bring baby wipes. Your feet might get a bit dirty as the night goes on, so make sure you have wipes to keep them clean from time to time.

4. Invite your bridal party to join you. Don’t be the only one having all the fun. Consider having a barefoot wedding with all attendees going barefoot as well. Heck, you can even invite your guest to join in.

5. Have backup socks or flip flops. Just in case your feet get too cold, or you need to walk somewhere that is prickly, have some socks or shoes at hand. If your whole wedding party is barefoot, consider making up personalized foot socks or flip flops for added fun.

Finally, however you do it, don’t forget to just have fun.

paris hilton wedding shoes

Believe it or not, our favorite new wedding shoes out there are from the one and only Paris Hilton. We normally wouldn’t think of Paris as being one to enter the wedding market, and once we heard that she did, we were a bit skeptical. But once we saw the shoes, we were sold!

These adorable shoes have a pink sole and have at least a 4 inch heel. They also are so totally cute with big bows placed very creatively on the shoe providing an elegant and supremely stylish look to your wedding day.

By the way, we just love the pink soles. Christian Louboutin has received all the acclaim for his blue and red soled shoes, but adding a pink soled shoe is perfect for your day as a princess.

And even more shockingly, these adorable shoes are only $120  and can be purchased through My Glass Slipper. Great job, Paris! We are impressed.

I think I was so worried about getting a boot that could keep out the snow and keep my feet warm while still maintaining a bit of fashion that it took over my every waking moment. Now, before you worry about me too much, I have found some great boots and am quite delighted to wear them.
