If you are planning your wedding on a budget, or if you’re just crafty and want to show off your skills, you can make your own table centerpieces. Though you will save significant money, you don’t need to skimp on beauty.
Here are some ideas for easy-to-make wedding centerpieces.
Fresh Flowers
Instead of purchasing expensive floral centerpieces, you can make your own with fresh cut flowers from your local gardening store.
Get simple clear vases from your neighborhood craft supply store or even from the dollar store. Then, place four or five flowers into each vase. If you find an interesting or funky vase that you love, buy enough for each table and then match a simple flower or bunch of herbs with the vase.
You can select low-cost flowers such as carnations and daisies. Other flowers that work well in small numbers are tulips and sunflowers. To add extra color, dye the water in the vase with food coloring or add colored marbles. Another elegant yet affordable option is to place a single long stemmed rose into a vase in the center of each table.
Hurricane Lamps
You can generally find hurricane lamps at the craft store from under $3 each. Place a white or off-white candle into each glass. If you’re getting married near the holiday’s a red or orange candle is very festive looking, as well.
Buy mirror squares from the home building store and place one on the center of each table.
Put the hurricane lamp, decorated with organza ribbon on top of the mirror. When lit, the candle will look great reflecting in the mirror.
Fruit Baskets
A currently fashionable and practical wedding centerpiece is a basket full of fruit. Purchase low-cost baskets, or even straw hats and flip them upside down. Fruit also looks great in large glass bowls that you can see through to see all the layers of fruit inside.
Fill each basket with colorful fruit, including apples, oranges, lemons and limes. If you have any gaps (and you aren’t using the glass containers) fill them in with tissue paper. To match your wedding colors, you can choose from more exotic fruits such as mangos, pears, plums and pomegranates.
The fruit baskets will make cute, colorful centerpieces and your guests can munch on the fruit after dinner.
