Wedding WineThe traditional rule when choosing wine for your wedding or other gathering was always white wine with white meat and red wine with red meat. Now with the trend of different types of fusion foods, you can offer your wedding guests some wonderful and more unique wine combinations.

But how do you choose what wine goes with what dishes? Outside of tasting each combination yourself, you can turn to an expert.

Author and sommelier Natalie MacLean offers daring matches to go with your wedding cuisine. She has created a new website devoted to food and wine pairings.

Can you serve Zinfandel with a Tex-Mex menu? Pinot Noir with wild boar?

“The old rules about white wine with white meat and red wine with red meat just don’t give enough guidance anymore,” says MacLean, author of Red, White, and Drunk All Over: A Wine-Soaked Journey from Grape to Glass, which was named the Best Wine Literature Book at the World Gourmand Cookbook Awards. “With modern fusion cuisine and wines from new regions around the world, the choices — and confusion — are great.”

Her website offers a free, interactive matching tool that takes all the guesswork out of choosing your wedding wine.

Visit nataliemaclean.com and try it out for yourself. You can find wine pairing for your main course, vegetarian cuisine, desserts or just about any food.

If you are serving an unusual dish that is not in the database, you can email Natalie from the website and she’ll suggest a match for you.
