Pregnant BridesmaidDuring the time in your life when you and many of your friends areĀ getting married, a lot may also be considering having that first or second baby. Friends starting new families means that brides everywhere who weren’t among theĀ first to reach the alter have to dress pregnant bridesmaids.

Over at Wedding Tactics, Stacy talks about the problem, as she was in two weddings at 7 months pregnant:

“I did feel large. I did feel out of place. But - I just decided to go with the flow. I wore something tight to the rehearsal dinner so it was obvious that I was pregnant and proud and that way, the next day, in the navy colored tent, I knew people KNEW I was just pregnant, not trying to shoplift a small chair under my dress.”

As a bride, yes, it is your wedding. And yes, your bridesmaids should wear whatever you throw their way, no matter how frilly or poofy or loud. However, if one of your bridesmaids is pregnant, you need to work with her to find a dress that works. Here are a few of your options:

  • Have all of your bridesmaids wear flats or allow your pregnant bridesmaid to choose alternatives to the high heels.
  • Ask the bridal shop if they carry materity dresses. Look through the catalogue and consider something in the same color for your pregnant bridesmaid if your dream bridesmaid dresses just won’t work for her.
  • Look for a cut that flatters every figure, including a pregnant one.

Of course, there is another option - let your friend to sit this one out. Truth be told, she might be relieved to not have to be a bridesmaid late in her pregnancy. Ensure her that you just want the best for everyone, and it isn’t about not wanting her in the wedding. You can even invite her to all the traditional bridesmaid events, like dress shopping. Make sure that if she is going to be in the wedding, though, that she is comfortable. Your wedding day is your day - but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t care about her needs too.
