Bridesmaids in lineEvery bride knows that choosing your bridal party is a huge part of the wedding. While some brides have known whom they will pick years in advance, others poll friends and family for a good support team. From finding the right gowns to the bachelorette party and pre-wedding prep, your wedding party is very important to your big day. Too much conflicting advice, lack of focus (on you), and arguing amongst the ladies are just a few ways that trouble can arise. So no matter if it is your childhood best friend or your fiancée’s second cousins wife’s sister, getting control over your bridesmaids is another aspect of preparing for your wedding.

There are two surefire ways to maintain a calm, cool, and collected command over your wedding party. The first is to learn to ask for a favor. Whether it is big or small, significant or nonchalant, asking somebody for a favor instantly makes her feel wanted, special, and appreciative of your friendship. This quickly builds a rapport between yourself and the bridesmaids while also being the one who give them direction.

The second tip is to be a boss without being, well, a boss. The art of bossing may come easily to some and more challenging to others, despite your profession or experience. If you need help, you might want to take a look at this book: The Girl’s Guide to Being a Boss (Without Being a Bitch). You need to recognize that you are the boss of your wedding party and it is your wedding day, so while suggestions and remarks may be helpful sometimes, you (and your fiancée) have the final say. Learning how to boss without being too bossy is particularly important when working with friends and family.

Not taking your role as a bride too lightly will help your wedding party understand the direction and vision you have for your wedding. However, what if things spiral out of control? Are bridesmaids fighting? Do you feel like you are losing control over your wedding? Then don’t be afraid to re-evaluate who your bridesmaids are, why they are there to share the special day with you, and what you need to do to get them to fall into line.
