Just MarriedIn the past, it was the norm for the bride and groom to make their getaway about an hour before the end of the wedding reception. When the couple left the reception to depart on their honeymoon, that would signal the guests to begin leaving the reception as well.

However, nowadays couples oftentimes stay at their wedding reception until the very end of the night, in order to spend more time with their family and friends. Also, the bride and groom may not necessarily leave for the honeymoon on the night of their wedding. Sometimes couples want a couple days to relax after the stress and rush of their wedding before beginning their travels. The bride and groom may also choose to hold a breakfast with family and out-of-town guests the morning after their wedding.

Whether the bride and groom decide to leave the reception early or be the last ones to leave, the couple might want to at least stage a farewell from the reception for photographs.

Arrange with the photographer to take pictures of the bride and groom leaving the reception site. Guests can throw birdseed, flower petals or rice, or instead blow bubbles as the couple departs. The photographer should take photos of the couple getting into the car and the “Just Married” sign as they drive away.  Even if the bride and groom just circle the block and come back to the reception, this photo opportunity shouldn’t be missed!
