Wedding dresses are beautiful. However, they are also oftentimes heavy, bulky and just uncomfortable.
So, is it acceptable to change out of your wedding dress at your reception?
Sometimes brides change into a different “getaway” outfit near the very end of the reception. Now you can just push up the timetable a little bit earlier.
It’s becoming more commonplace for the bride to change out of her wedding gown into a shorter or more comfortable dress in the middle of her wedding reception.
Be sure to select a dress that is still appropriate. White or light colors are ideal, and nothing too short.
After you have taken all the posed pictures that you can handle, make a quick trip to the changing room at the reception facility and change your dress. Don’t forget to bring a second pair of shoes. Have your mother or maid-of-honor help you get out of your wedding gown and make sure it’s stored properly.
Recently, I attended a wedding where the bride avoided this problem altogether. She wore a gorgeous mermaid wedding gown that had a tearaway skirt. For the reception, she just removed the bottom portion of the dress (from just above the knee down), and she was all set!
