bride and groomThe idea of a prenuptial agreement might be repulsive to some people, but the reality is that some people feel the need for these agreements, and it does not have to be a bad thing there are some benefits that you may want to consider when it comes to talking about a prenup.

Prenups get your finances on the table. You don’t even need to actually sign a prenup, but just talking about one means that you have to talk about money, and that is a very important thing. From who will be managing the cash to what your budget might look like, talking about your earning, your saving, your current debt, and your spending before the wedding is always a good plan.

Prenups can help provide financial stability. Worried about the way money will work in your marriage? A prenup doesn’t just decide what will happen when partners split; it can also determine what happens to the money during the marriage. If you decide that the more well off partner will pay all of the living expenses of the other while that person builds a nest egg, then a prenup can actually be a great boon for that less well off person.

Prenups assure that things stay fair. If you divorce for any reason at all, a prenup will help ensure that things are fair and orderly in the split. However, prenups can be important for fairness even if you never think about divorce. All of your possessions can be accounted for in the prenup, which means that you’ll still be able to keep things somewhat separate if you wish. Just because you are married doesn’t mean that you have to share everything.

A prenup can be a touchy subject, for sure, but bring up the idea of a prenuptial agreement with your spouse anyway, just to get things on the table and start some of the conversations that matter.
