No one wants rain on their wedding day, but the fact of the matter is that you just can’t control Mother Nature. If you’re facing a wet wedding day, don’t panic. You can still have a lovely wedding! Here are seven tips to help you survive rain, whether you’re dealing with a slight drizzle or a downpour.
Tip #1: Reconsider your hairstyles. Everyone’s hair reacts differently to rain. Some hair gets frizzy. Others find their hair falls flat. Consider the hair of you and your bridesmaids. If you want it to be as beautiful as possible, work with your natural hair during wet weather, not against it.
Tip #2: Plan more time to get from place to place. It is always dangerous to rush, but during a storm, it can be deadly. Make sure you plan enough time to get from place to place so that you and your limo driver can drive slowly and safely.
Tip #3: Have a place for umbrellas. Many of your guests will be carrying umbrellas if it is raining. Where will they put them during the ceremony and at the reception? If you were planning just to provide hangers for coats, you may want to instead hire someone to work a coat room or have holders for umbrellas.
Tip #4: Talk to your DJ about setting up early. DJs often have electrical equipment that is hard to safely transport in the rain. A small shower might not be a big deal, but if there will be a huge storm, your DJ may want to set up early before the rain starts, or at least move their equipment into the reception hall to avoid getting wet.
Tip #5: Keep a watchful eye on younger members of your wedding party. If your flower girl likes to stomp through puddles, you may not get pictures while her dress is still clean! Keep a close eye on the kids in your wedding party whenever you have to walk outside. Better yet, designate one of your bridesmaids or groomsmen to be in charge of each child in the party.
Tip #6: Carry a stain stick. To go along with the tip above, carry a stain stick with you to help in the case of splashing mud or water. No, you and your bridesmaids and groomsmen won’t be purposely stomping through puddles, but sometimes, accidents happen. A stain stick might not be able to completely remove the stain, but it can fade it enough so that it isn’t noticeable to your guests or in pictures.
Tip #7: Stay on top of your honeymoon travel plans. If storms are especially bad, flights can be canceled or delayed. If you’re leaving on the night of your wedding or the next day, stay in close contact with your airline and hotel to make sure that your travel plans aren’t completely ruined.
Rain on your wedding day may not be optimal, but you can survive it and still have a great time on your big day. For more tips on surviving wet weather, check out Tie the Knot and Real Photography.
