A good example of vintage wedding gowns is Vintage Wedding which sells lots of high quality, very old used gowns and many of them to celebrities. Cruising through the site’s offerings turned up all kinds of treasures. For instance a quick surface turned up a Swedish tea length wedding gown in bright white silk with shirred sleeves and bodice that was only worn once in a fashion show in West Germany.
Sometimes you can get a gown that looks vintage that really isn’t but Is used just the same. On the Vintage Wedding site there is a gown in an almost café au lait color with puffy sleeves that end in a tight Victorian cuff, a boat neckline and an ankle length lace and silk overlaid skirt. The reason it looks older is because it is actual more of a milky coffee color.
One challenge when you are shopping vintage, of course is to find a dress that is not stained or that is not in need of too much fitting or repair. Thankfully there are quite a few vintage wedding dress specialty stores that exist now to accommodate the bride who loves “something old.”
